How to be more productive at drafting

Blueprint Reading - The Language of Plans

The most crucial item to learn when striving for productive drafting is having the ability to read, interpret, and then put together a set of Construction Drawings (CD's).  Knowing what is required on each sheet, being clear, clean and concise, and at times over redundant can avoid interruptions and reduce the amount of ASI's, RFI's, change orders, and other questions that arise during pricing, bidding, permit, and construction phases.

Typing and the Musical Keyboard

In the production of CD's  you will have General Notes, Keys Notes, Sheet Notes, Details Notes and various other text so learning to type, minus the find-and-peck, is a production changer.  Just 30+ words a minute will begin to set you apart from others.

Then, learning the keyboard layout so you can then initiate two-handing drafting with your mouse/trackball of choice can set you at another level.  Driving AutoCAD through keyboard commands is the fastest way to be productive.  When the keyboard and mouse/trackball are utilized together you can create harmony and keep a beat, literally.
